BIOGRAPHY
I really love making movies, and I'm always looking for interesting projects to direct. I have a diverse
background in visual storytelling, including film
studies in the USA (Stanford/UCLA) and
Czechoslovakia, worldwide
travel on assignment, writing/directing/producing & camerawork,
and pioneering work as a woman filmmaker in all these areas. I'm well-read, well-traveled and
well-rounded, and love the leadership
and process of making movies. I've frequently worked with kids
and non-actors, coaxing successful performances from both. I have a good eye for visualizing
material, and enjoy the collaboration
of moviemaking. Most important, I feel, is fulfilling the story.
Mentored early in my career by Editor/Executive Verna Fields
(I was invited to edit independent
films in Verna's home studio)
and Directors of Photography William Fraker, John Alonzo and
John Bailey (among the first to hire women on their camera crews), I spent twenty years working
within the Hollywood system.
Since 1988 I've been writing, producing and directing exclusively.
Active in mainstream DGA work as well as independent production
(including low budget drama,
educational, PBS, and documentary),
I consider my years of experience to be an asset to any production.
P.S. Always on time & on budget!
